Hi

I would consider myself a competent person with a Master degree in engineering and plenty of experience with commercial equipment but I am not corgi registered.
I has a 15 year old Ideal Icos HE24 that has given sterling service,
it has had a new ignitor ( the wrong one was fitted during a service so I sourced the correct one and fitted it. It had a new orange control board when the usual fault of a burnt out transformer killed the old one.

But this new fault has me baffled.
Everything on the system is working, it delivers hot water and heating, but at a much reduced duty cycle.

The boiler lights up, for example showing "C" and the burner light on steady
after a few minutes the boiler cuts out as expected and the burner light flashes showing "I assume" that the boiler is up to temperature.

However, I would expect the boiler to fire up again reasonably quickly, but it takes an awful long time by which time the flow pipe is pretty much stone cold. Eventually it does come on and a bit more heat is distributed around the system.

System pressure is OK
No airlocks,
Heat exchanger is clean,
condensate pipe clear,
Fan runs smoothly.
Ignitor lights first time every time
I checked the thermistor on the flow pipe and it is within spec.
I swapped in a known good control board

As it is over 15 years old ( 15 years and 2 months ) Ideal don't repair,

Any thoughts or suggestions ?

I am away on holiday next week, then we are into Christmas, I don't really want to have a new boiler installed before the new year, but I also don't want myself or my wife to freeze before then .

Are you a gas safe engineer? If not then you shouldn’t be changing any of the components that you have already said you’ve done.

Sorted, in case anyone else has the same problem, the start run capacitor in the pump was way down and sometimes the pump was running, sometimes it wasn't.
Being intermittent made it a bit harder to find ..

Ah, but then I'm not allowed to give advice ....
