Worcester CDi electrode kit

Hi, I had my Worcester CDi classic serviced last week and was told the electrode kit should be replaced due to a glass safety issue (it can crack and leave open flames). I wondered if anyone could tell me:
1 how long this problem has been known about
2 should the electrode kit always be replaced or is it up to the engineer?

The reason why I ask is because my boiler was serviced 2 years ago and that engineer didn't mention it. So if it doesn't shown signs of distress is it ok to leave it alone?

Luckily my boiler was under warranty for 2 more weeks so I can have it replaced free of charge but I will not be happy if the previous engineer left me with a potentially dangerous boiler and made no mention that it was a possible issue.

It's been known about for several years, but it's not an immediate safety issue, just an advisory to replace. If you've not had your boiler serviced every year it'll be out of warranty, as annual servicing is a requirement of the warranty
 
Worcester have already agreed to it and I have an engineer coming to change it in a couple of weeks. They didn't ask about service history, they just checked that it was still under warranty.
 
Be prepared that if the service log is not up to date a good chance they will not replace it unless you pay them to service it

Not sure about other areas, I am in Scotland and they done that with one of my customers, and to be honest best thing for him , they changed about £500 worth of parts and completed the service log , think it cost about £90 odd I think he said

But I just had it serviced last week so I can't be paying twice!! They never mentioned anything about the T&Cs on the phone and I've spoken to them twice so it would be very unfair if they decided to charge me once here.
 
sorry misread your post , I thought it was 2 years since the service, as long as your engineer has completed the service record you will be fine they wont charge you
 
Oh thank goodness! It's really concerning anyway that as this is a safety issue they aren't offering to replace them free of charge...it's hardly the customer's fault!

The replacement of these was only a cause for concern and a Technical bulletin was issued to registered engineers to look out for them and change when they came across them, it only takes a few mins to change to the new ones

My engineer wouldn't leave it, he was going to drive across town to get the replacement part til I said I wanted to check my warranty and we found it was still under warranty. He phoned Worcester and explained the situation, I made the appointment and then he was happy to sign the paperwork as he knew it was getting sorted soon.
