Mira Sport Shower Cutting Out

Hoping for some help on diagnosing a Mira shower. Mira Sport 9kW

2 days ago it started cutting out after about 10 minutes of running. First the low flow light comes on, then the water shuts off. I'm pretty confident it's not a water flow issue. Mains pressure and have tried turning on all the taps in the house and the shower still runs.

Tonight I tested it with no hose attached and it was cutting out after 2-3 minutes on hot and cold. in my understanding this rules out the overheating sensor?

Inside the shower there are 2 little grey switches which move levers which I believe control the water supply. These positively move when it comes on/off meaning it's definitely the shower switching itself on/off.


Any thoughts/ideas if this is repairable? Any ideas of things I could try/test?

Video isn’t long. It could be the flowswitch or the solenoid. Do you have access to a multimeter?
 
Thanks. I shot a lot of video but that was the only but I could see something happening. In that instance it's coming back on after being off.

I do have a multimeter though wouldn't know how to check either of those but can definitely try YouTube. Any tips?

Update. I've tested the solenoid and it's measuring 3.488kΩ. I read anything below 3.4 is faulty, but i also read it should be above 3.5.

I've also tested the Thermal Cut Out TCO and the two microswitches and they all have continuity which suggests they're fine.

I also tested the heating elements which both got around 12.7Ω resistance so assume they are fine too.

By testing the flowswitch was that the microswitches that control the water switching that can be seen activating in the above video? Both of those seem to be OK.

Any other ideas on what to test/try?

Please start at the begining and check the inlet filters.
 
Thanks for the suggestion. Just checked it and looks OK. A small amount of debris but largely clear and water flow out of the shower when it's on is strong.

I checked the solenoid again and got 3.495kΩ, so again slightly below 3.5 but presumably OK?
 
Yes, usually ok with that reading. If your stopcock is fully open, there are no restrictions eg small bore isolation valves, the is be possibly looking towards the flow valve.

Thanks. I think I saw the valve and assembly at about £45 which makes me not super motivated to replace just that part in case it doesn't fix it when a new shower is maybe £180. Any idea if it's possible to test the flow valve?
 
N9 I don’t know how to test a flow valve, however don’t believe it is that, have a look at showerdocs top 5 and number 1 culprit, so even though you might have a good resistance reading, might still be solenoid, for approx £10, might be worth a go?

I was just looking at it and thinking the same. It doesn't look like the flow valve has any electrical connections and this seems to be an electrical issue. Something is triggering the water to stop and it's the solenoid that does that. And you're right, at £10 it's worth a shot.

Update: I was thinking the same, you saying it as well has made me think it might be a good idea! Thanks.

New solenoid in and it seems to be running as normal. Hard to say. With the old solenoid it was cutting out after a few minutes. Ran it today for about 10-15 with no issues on the new solenoid. Will know for sure within a couple of days. New solenoid measures about 3.9kΩ so definitely different.

However! Since putting in the new solenoid the shower has been dripping non stop. I obviously fitted it so maybe I knocked something out of place. I didn't remove the shower, just loosened it and flexed it to allow replacing the solenoid. The saga continues.
