Gap: internal Door frame and plasterboard wall

Hi all

wonder if you can help please

we recently removed skirting to renew it after having a newlamibstr floor. but we have noticed some large gaps between the wooden door frame and plaster board wall, some as wide as a couple of cm- please see picture.

do I need to fill these gaps with anything before reapplying new skirting?
I thought perhaps some kind of foam or insulation etc

If there’s any benefit to noise or warmth / insulation we could gain I would like to!

If you fill those gaps by the judicious use of expanding foam (i.e. use less than you think you'll need as the stuff can really expand a lot) before applying the architraves then you'll reap the benefits of reduced noise transmission, reduced draughts and better heat retention. Any excess foam can be trimmed back with a bread knife or the like once it has set fully (leave 24 hours in the cold weather). BTW expanding foam shouldn't be used much below about 5 deg. C as it fails to work in low temperatures
