Is thia earth cable necessary?

I have a earth cable which is connected to the stop cock in my wc.

What i wanted to know whether i can remove the cable in its entirety?

Please note that i have another earth cable which is connected to my gas meter

It must remain, also the gas one.

Not technically an Earth cable, but the Main Protective Bonding Conductor.

It is necessary because the pipe is earthed by the ground which might be at a different potential than the electrical installation supply earth (when/if a fault occurs).

Did you read the writing on the metal tag?

If the pipe is not metal - does not conduct electricity - then the cable would not be required.
 
Easy to find out, just scrape it with the back of a sharp knife and see if it's shiny underneath or if a plastic like scraping comes off.

I thought it looked like metal.
I believe that the pipe is copper.

Does one still need the earth bonding?
 
Even if the incoming pipe was plastic, that doesn't automatically mean bonding isn't required. Tests are needed to confirm.

If the incoming pipe were plastic, what tests (and test results) might indicate that main bonding was required?
