How to adjust temperature on this type of radiator?

I have this type of radiator knobs in some rooms and would like to know how to adjust their temperature.

The top pic shows a wheel head valve. Turn it clockwise to reduce the flow through the radiator. This will reduce the temperature of the rad. The lower picture show the lockshield valve, which is used to balance the rad, i.e make it give out the correct amount of heat when full on.

You really need to change the wheel head valves to TRVs (Thermostatic Radiator Valves). You can then set them to give the required room temperature and the valve adjusts the output as necessary.

Your valves are Pegler "Terrier"
They are not TRV..just on or off.

What type of key adjusts the wheel head and lockshield valves?

I have these peglier terrier valves in two rooms and was told you can't have TRV in the room where the thermostat is located. Is this accurate?

1. The wheel head valve has a knob with grips. It should turn by hand on the outside of the knob. If it is stuck, remove the screw in the top, pull the handle off and you will find a square or rectangular end to a brass shank. Turn the square / rectangle with an adjustable spanner / pliers / grips to free it up. Replace knob and adjust by hand.
2. The lock shield valve should not require adjustment. It will (should) have been set correctly when the system was balanced. If you do decide to alter the setting, it requires the top to be taken off, by removing screw and pulling plastic cover off. Then close if fully (clockwise looking down) counting the number of 1/8th turns required to fully close it. Then adjust as required with spanner / pliers / grips, but if you don't want to alter the balance of the whole heating system, re-open it to the number of 1/8th turns originally required to fully close it.
