Beware Worx tools

Hello to all as a new poster here. I have a Worx brushless drill. It was 2 years and ten months old when l contacted Worx stating that the drill was faulty (3 years guarantee), it kept stopping or wouldn't start at all. Many emails have passed backwards and forwards concerning the repair (the latest below). I was eventually asked to send the drill off to them, that was the 25th November, here we are nearly a month later, still no drill.

After some digging it seems like there are maybe hundreds of complaints both here and abroad of crap or no service.

AVOID AT ALL COST....DREADFUL COMPANY.

I bought a Worx circular saw to cut floorboards. Useless. Overheated very quickly and struggled to cut.

I have had the drill for nigh on 3 years and it's been great, but now that it's packed up, trying to get it repaired is a nightmare. I worked for myself for over 35 years as a domestic appliance engineer and l made it a rule to keep in contact on a regular basis if a customer was waiting for a part to repair their machine...that's all a customer needs is contact...EASY innit....Rick.

Yes thank you, l was thinking along those lines, l have used the small claims procedure many moons ago and it did the trick, the other party quickly coughed up. I shall wait until after crimbo now.
 
The company is Chinese but has the following EU address

Positec Germany GmbH

I don't know how easy it will be to take take a German registered firm to the small claims court.

That said, your contract is not with Positec/Worx but the retailer. Assuming that you purchased it from a DIY shed such as B&Q then you need to contact them and ask them to resolve it.
 
Don't jump your guns.
The magic word in the regulations is "reasonable".
Referred to the durability of the product, 2 and a half year seem somehow reasonable considering the price and usage.
So firstly the retailer who sold you the drill will refer you back to the manufacturer.
The manufacturer is obliged to fix, refund or replace the drill accordingly to the terms & conditions of the 3 year warranty.
A civil claim most likely would fail for several reasons.
You could threaten to sue, but i wouldn't waste money with a claim on this, although fairly cheap.
So on this occasion you would be better off insisting on Worx honouring their warranty.
Failing that, you would be better off making a claim for the deceptive warranty rather than the defective drill.

Sound advice indeed thank you. For a few quid l could buy a domain name such as Worxproblems.com or similar and shame them online. I did that a few years ago over a dispute with a travel company. When l pointed out the domain name to them that l bought and said l would publish the whole sorry saga...hey presto they resolved the problem plus bought the domain name off me.....Rick.
 
if you purchased that tool direct from worx,yes its a fair comment worthy of consideration.

if Purchased via a retailer,then the retailer has to sort something out not worx :mrgreen:

Their own limited warranty might be 12 months but their liability extends up to 6 years. The problem though is that you have to prove that the fault existed at the point of manufacture. That said, the fact that the product has a 3 year manufacturer's warranty suggests that if it has developed a fault the fault existed from day one (assuming that the tool has not been abused.

For the record, if you need to sue a firm based elsewhere in the EU, you can use the European-E-Portal

Many thanks for the info, not much l can do now until after crimbo, but l think a domain name to shame might well do the trick as bad publicity is the last thing they would want. I'll find their head of sales, he wouldn't be pleased to find a domain name out there slagging off the companies products....i'll be in touch after crimbo and let everyone know how things are proceeding...A very Happy Xmas to one and all.....Rick.
 
If you go ahead with the internet shaming, make sure you state hard facts.
Don't give opinions and don't call the company names, i.e. their tools are all rubbish.
 
Well Worxproblems.com is currently available at £1.99 for the first year, but Worxproblems.co.uk is only 99p - heck why not have both :)
