So I recently ordered an Osram Ledvance, one of these:

Fitted it today but every time I turned the electric back on the power tripped.

Triple checked my work, all was fine. Re-wired just in case but no difference.

Decided to check the fitted wiring from the light with my multimeter - every wire has a dead short!

I'm surprised that this would happen with an Osram product. Has anyone come across this before? I'll order a replacement and get a refund on the faulty one.

Even big manufacturers make mistakes and have bad batches from time to time so it's possible that it's simply faulty from the factory.

Do you have a picture of how you wired it up?

Sounds faulty, I'd send it back.
We got a pair of those floodlights recently and they both seem ok, but your problem could even be the flex.

Afraid not, but I got a replacement and wired it in exactly the same and it works perfectly.

I'm just surprised that the faulty unit had such an unexpected fault.

I also meant to add that the shorts went away after a while which leads me to think that a capacitor was faulty.

More likely the capacitor was behaving as expected, and there was no short. Still, I wasn't there, so who knows?

Each wire was shorted (Live, Earth, Neutral) - I re-checked a couple of times after disconnecting the light.
