Can anyone recommend a solar trickle battery charger for when doing very little mileage,

Preferably one with a float regulator that can be left permanently connected or, if not, just a good one.

I had one about 10 years ago, it was as much good as a concrete parachute. Maybe they are better now.

I fitted one to a friends Mazda Bongo camper van.....it was a Halfords one and the output was very low, less than 3W I think. Sadly it didnt do its job during the winter at all so Id guess any panel would have to be a good size to make it worthwhile.

My son has a van which is not used much. I bought him a 12V 25W solar panel and during the summer that brought a completely flat battery back up sufficiently to start the vehicle in a couple of days. He leaves it permanently plugged in as it has a blocking diode. I also have the same panel on my garage (100 yards from a power source) which keeps an 063 battery charged for lighting and small power use through an inverter.
