no hot water upstairs

Just re-read post, you mention you have solar, is this hot water?

Interesting that it does fire up with multiple outlets open downstream of the mixer. I am wondering if some debris got into the system and is restricting multiple outlets. Sounds unlikely to affect all quality but still could be worth removing a tap and

Yeh it has a solar tank upstairs and a panel on the roof for hot water. It heats the water in the summer months but obviously not much help in the winter months.
I’m hoping It may just be kicking in at the boiler with multiple outlets on as there is then enough demand for the hot water even with cold getting in with a faulty tmv?
As I said, I think I’ll change the tmv. Hopefully it will fix it. If it doesn’t I’ll get a plumber.

It sounds as if your combi feeds the kitchen tap and other hot outlets are fed by a cylinder.
Is this correct?

Hello Daveydub, yes I suspect u are correct. There is a cylinder upstairs that is linked to a thermal solar panel. I changed the tmv today without any improvement. I have now booked Jarretts for the 13th Jan to come and have a look at the pipe work/solar cylinder etc. The Alpha boiler engineer has stated there is no issue with the boiler and the hot water downstairs would sort of back this up. Jarretts fitted these systems so should be the ideal people to sort it. I did what I could but anything else is a little beyond me. So I’ll leave it to the experts. Cheers to the people that tried to help. I’ll update this thread when the issue is resolved so that the info is there if anyone else with the same issue needs it in the future.

If you are happy to wait 11 days to resolve this then no worries but if you wish to get some hot water upstairs in the meantime, you presumably have a programmer of some sort with hot water & heating settings.
Put the hot water to constant and heating off. What does boiler do now?

It has a summer (water only) , winter setting (water and heating) these are on the boiler. The heating has two remote thermostats. One upstairs one downstairs. Not sure how to set the water to constant on it. It triggers as u turn on the tap. Or it’s supposed to but isn’t.

See if you can upload a photo of cylinder cupboard including the zone valves.

Here are two of the cylinder cupboard and one of boiler display. Cheers

So it appears you have a zone valve for the hot water, which should be connected to the programmer, find this, and you should be able to get hot water

There are 3 valves if I’m looking at the right things. How would I know which is the right one? The one on the cylinder? As the others are on the 22mm heating pipes?
The programmer? They connect into the box on the wall which I have maybe wrongly assumed is the point of supply. The water and heating is run from the main display I have pictured. The heating has two programmable thermostats. Nothing to programme water. Sorry to sound thick. But not sure how to do what u have suggested.

No you don’t sound thick. The box on the wall is a wiring centre, where all the wires connect. The one on the cylinder should be for the hot water, but will only come on with a programmer or thermostat (if heating).

The water only comes on when it’s called for by put in a tap or shower. There is no way to programme the water. Unlike the heating. I will mention what unsuggest it could be to the Jarrett heating engineer as it may save time though. Cheers.

If you manually open the valve on top of the cylinder using the little lever on the end, now put heating on, the 2 pipes on top of the cylinder should now get hot & your cylinder begin to heat up. This should allow you to get hot water upstairs for the time being. What do your 2 room thermostats look like?

Yes. The 2 pipes were hot last night as the heating was on.
I’ll try when I get in. Move the lever from left to right. I take it this should allow the valve to open to let the hot water in? So it’s likely that it’s this motorised valve that’s failed? Got to be worth a go. Thanks.
