Replacing wired door bell/chime

I'd like to replace the wired door bell and chime in my house. Looking at the transformer attached to the consumer unit it's a Friedland 752 with 3-5-8 V AC 1.0A output.

Is there anything I can just attach the to the existing wires or would I be better disconnecting and going wireless?

Great, thanks. I just want to replace it with something more modern - and the current buzzer doesn't work very well.

Can I use the existing transformer with all of these?

Yes. You're pretty much limited to a buzzz, a rrrring, or a ding-dong, though.

OK, thanks. Currently the buzzer makes a lame farting sound, which although amusing needs to go!

If you do decide to go wireless I can recommend the piezo electric button systems available on Amazon and elsewhere that generate enough electricity when someone pushes the button to trigger the alarm inside without requiring a battery (that will eventually wear out and then you wonder why noone ever rings your bell...) Add to that they come with a chime with multiple tune options that plugs into any mains socket and you have a totally plug and play system that just works out the box - so satisfying! I bought two sets and configured them to run off the same button with chimes going off in four rooms of a big house. The only problem comes if you need the power socket for something else or when someone knocks during a power cut.
