Surface mounted LED batten wired from conduit?

We want to get lights of this sort of style but all cabling will be surface mounted and I can't tell if this sort of light has any facility to run a cable underneath it, or will only work if the cable comes through the ceiling?

One electrician mentioned getting thicker fittings to allow a conduit to run to it more nearly but I can't find any, do they have a different name perhaps?

We have exposed beams on which these lights will be fitted and want to make sure the cable and conduit are neat. We're specifying the units for our electrician to fit but he's out of touch over the holidays.

Most fittings that you can conduit into will be a square profile, usually referred to as an Led Batten fitting, the fittings you link too are more for flush fitting, wired into the back as you say.
Though there is nearly always an option of fitting conduit boxes in the conduit and fixing the light on them, obviously they wont be flush then and sit about 30mm away.
Or maybe terminate the conduit in a sguare box butted up to the fitting.

Thanks. Confusingly the flush fit like I link are what I know as "batten" and see online. I don't suppose you have an example of what you describe as a link?

In your suggestion about a square box, we could then run the cable underneath... There should be space for that?

Battens are traditionally more commercial and sometimes a bit ugly, you still cant run wires behind them though, you would drill into any side to enter the wires, regs now forbid wiring passing Through fittings unless there designed to do so, but as there led and run cooler its not usually a problem..
Something like this usually fits on 2 conduit boxes or flat to a ceiling with the wires protruding through.

have you rung the supplier and asked for a copy of the fitting instructions. they might have a pdf or could scan and e-mail it to you. might be worth a try
