Blocks - so many choices! What do you recommend?

Certainly easier than drilling into brick but you wouldn't normally find brick walls internally nowadays.
Aye, made a nice change from my old terrace where the SDS had to come out for every other job! Could drill a hole in thermalites with a spoon

Just for consideration... when I built I chose 3N blocks for both inner and outer skin rendered on the outside with a 100mm cavity and rock wool batts. My reason was this is standard construction and cheap (90p/block). Went for this as did not want to use thermolite/breezeblocks internally as I’d be hanging kitchen cupboards on it and thermolites are made of cheese.

BC had no issues with U values.

Thanks for the input.

Your thread a while back about your kitchen extension is one of the reasons why I’m considering the DIY route for mine - really enjoyed the read and you did amazing.

Got BC coming round next week to sign off my drains (hopefully), so I might get calculating some U values and cost values for different set ups and have a chat (not that BC will care about the cost calcs!)

I can't understand why you have got someone to specify materials, had the specification approved (or sending for approval) and then are taking about doing something completely different
Because the designer is a ****, like asking for 45mm Celotex, crappy lightweight blocks and a rubbish God awful partial fill.

Like when they specify code 6 lead for regular cover flashings.

Like when they ask for ridiculously thick single layer Celotex.

Like when they ask for GRP flat roof coverings.

Some designers are best ignored.

Why not? Much easier to render.

I discovered (much to my delight) you can buy 7n lightweight fellas which we used on this job...

They are coded with a different spray to the 3.5n fellas so you can define, as they look and feel very similar.

outer skin of your gable end looks like aerated? Are they fibolites?

Why don’t you rate GRP flat roof? Thought it stacked up pretty well against other coverings.....
As long as the temperature is holding steady at 21.3 degrees C, the air moisture content level is constant at no more than 44.6% and the boards have been kiln dried 8 minutes prior to laying - then fine.
