I have a quite brittle old wall I need to fix the following bracket (for a heavy basketball hoop). The instructions for fixing is attached but I feel I need a substantial fitting. Can anyone recommend? Would I be better using a resin or an anchor of some sort?

Once you have decided what fixings you are going with you can squirt expanding foam behind both sides that will help bond it to virtually anything.

Could you fix 4x2 or box steel to the wall first where you can choose where to drill the fixings, then fix the hoop to that?
