Repairing achitrave

Got to repair the bottom of this architave. I was going to cut the bit already there into a nice straight edge somehow then screw in the patch bit at the bottom. Filler over screws

Replacing the whole lot could cause more problems I heard

As foxhole says replacing the whole length from the mitre at the top is not a major job.

I was worried I'd damage the wall behind levering it out. How would the new one be attached? Just with no nails or any screws?
 
Lever from frame side not wall and pin new in place .

Before that, run a sharp Stanley blade down each side of the architrave. I forgot on a couple of frames, and the additional filling of missing paint chunks was a pain in the arse I don't want to deal with again!

I run a belt sander down the edge, removes all paint chips .
