Hello, Im trying to buy a diesel filter online. Ive looked on euro car parts and they have a choice of four. But the Bosch one looks quite different from the crossland one for example. Having just done the oil filter and discovering the sump washers they sent (I bought 3 as they suggested different ones) were all way off, Im a bit concerned. Im assuming I should compare with the existing one but if that's wrong ive got to get the bus for a long trip to the nearest supplier.

Also does anyone have a preference in brands? Bosch, Fram, Mann, Crossland?

Sometimes it helps if you say what vehicle you have in mind.

Lots of info there and lots of us passat lovers looking after our beloved german mistress
Again, VW fits Mann filters and uses Quantum fully synthetic oil.
If you don't mind my advice, fill up with shell V-Power as often as you can.
A £5/£6 extra per full tank but well worth it.

Bosch are made by Mann
Fram and Purflux are made by the Sogefi Group, likely in the same factory.
Mann are German based with a top gun reputation but world wide manufacturing.
Crossland, I've read, is now just a name that was purchased as a reputable brand and now manufactured in China.
Blue Print has a quality reputation.
Also, have a look at Hengst. Like Mann, German based and I think their filters look better made.

Here's an opinion.

As far as VW goes, Mann are OE. My local VW stocks Quantum and Castrol.
Mann online catalogue.

I have a 67 plate Peugeot Bipper van and do an oil and filter drop at 10k. It may have a Fiat engine, I believe.
For the first filter change, the Peugeot dealers didn’t have the correct filter and couldn’t understand why they couldn’t provide one either (after I plonked it down on the bench)...... I tried the same approach at a Citroen dealer, same response.
Finally I contacted an ex pupil of mine who now is the head parts person for the PSA group in the North and he contacted Sogefi directly......a day later the correct filter arrived, thank goodness so I bought 3 (one left now!)
None of the motor factors stock this one, believe it or not, so its 10/10 for Sogefi. Thankfully I’ve kept the box and part number.
I’ll just edit this one.....the air and fuel filters are available from Blueprint, its just the oil which is the oddball.

I might be wrong but I think the engine you refer to (John) is made for FIAT by a company called VM Motori. (Motori being Italian for engines)
As far as I know it is a company that is owned by FIAT and GM and they make engines for companies in the group.
Have a look to see if it has VM stamped on it somewhere. I’ve seen VM on the side of engines in unusual places, donkey engines on cranes for example.

I’ll do that, thanks! Certainly the coolant has Fiat badges on it and I believe its the same diesel lump fitted to the Nemo and Fiorino versions.
Three things to moan about:
The turbo lag is very pronounced, but the van goes like hell once it kicks in;
The heater is the worst Ive ever experienced;
Probably due to the short wheel base, its the stottiest vehicle Ive ever been in  shakes your fillings out!
John :)

Thanks people. Ive ordered a Mann one from eurocarparts.
I did Quantum oil recently after Diyspanner recommended it.
I probably will join the passat site as im jealous of newer models that have silver front grills and wonder if its worth sticking something on.

Do your battery a favour by filling the filter brim full with clean diesel - makes for an instant start up!
For me, the fuel filter is replaced at 20k, and I do the air filter then too.
Edit this one.....if the vehicle is under warranty, then its dealer stuff only. After that, its Blueprint. Their discs and pads are a cut above too.
I’m sure your choice will be absolutely fine.....we all have our favourites!
John :)

Yes, very good Eddie (y) Stotty box is a suitable description for a Bipper.
Not to be confused, of course, with a stottie cake (pronounced cayek) which is a flat round loaf. Why aye man!
John :)

I got Blue Print oil, air, fuel and cabin filters for a Fiesta TDCI.

Fuel, air and cabin filters have Blue Print and the part number printed on them.

The oil filter has the BOSCH logo moulded on to the end cap so will be a Mann manufactured filter since Mann makes Bosch filters.

All the filters look well made so Blue Print seem to be purchasing from top tier filter makes which Mann is.
