Swmbo wants me to build an understair storage with slide out drawers. I’ve seen what she’s after on youtube:

It’ll be my main project for this year and the one I’m most likely to bugger up. I don’t have a table saw, only a circular saw and a jigsaw.

Is it worth me investing in a SCMS? If so, what would be a good choice as a DIYer? My main issue would be storage as space is limited so I’d have to bring the saw out of the garage and use it on the driveway or in the backgarden.

This is what I do .
You could simplify the under stairs draw design by loosing the base rail and have entire draw run out on fixed wheels ( not castors).
A central guide rail below keeps it inline .

Thanks. The wheels would have to run on to carpet, which is why I wanted to go with rails.

I don't mind dragging out the SCMS. Is there a suitable one for a DIYer that's reasonably portable?

I mount mine on a knee height made to measure trolley which can be rolled around on its big castors [which can be locked] but for the under stairs project a small table saw would be more usefull.

I've just traded in my collection of saws: a DeWalt compound sliding mitre saw, a small (worn out) Makita combination saw and a DeWalt flip saw and bought a larger combination saw (Bosch GTM12 - mitre saw with table saw on top) and mounted it on a Makita DEAWST05 wheeled stand.
The old mitre saw was good - but they don't rip, the combination saw rips but only had a 10" blade so mitre function a bit lacking, the flip saw was nice (DW743) but weighed a quarter of a ton so the thought of carrying it from garage to house (or even setting it up in the garage) put me off using it.

I don't yet know whether this set up will suit me any better that my previous bunch of kit but at least I can easily wheel it from garage to house and I'll no longer be cutting skirting boards etc on the floor propped on bits of wood.

Nice set up though personally I prefer separates.

I did a similar project last year and used one of the online mdf cutting services.

You design everything online, massive choice of laminated surfaces and edge profiles, then you just need to dowel/glue/screw and concentrate on your framework and runners.
