Flushing solution

I have a gunged kitchen sink drain pipe.

There's 3 bends in it so no chance of a wire being pushed through it.

I had the idea of bunging the out flow and filling the pipe with some solution, leaving it for a few hours to soften the gunge that's stuck to the sides, then flushing through with hot water.

Can anyone recommend a solution that can soften/dissolve gunge please?

I use the own brand drain cleaner that you get in Sainsbury. Can’t you remove the bends/trap and clean them out manually?

The lead off to the external drain has three bends, two of them being on the opposite sides of the external wall and the pipe run is glued.

If I can get a string run through using water flow, I can then pull a length of thin rope through, with a metal washer tied to it, pull it forwards/backwards to dislodged to gunk. That's the theory at least.

The water runs away and I've got the straight section off the U bend cleaned out. Its rest of the black pipe I want to de-gunge.

If it’s only scum, then soda crystals and boiling hot water work well. A wire spring would get round those bends, done it loads of times.

So if I block the pipe's exit outside, fill the sink with hot water, add soda crystals, then let it run down and fill the pipe, leave it for an hour or so, the gunge will be dissolved?

You could do it like that, however could be an issue with expansion. No need to block the outlet, Just follow instructions on packet, I think it’s half a bag, followed by the water.

Edit: make sure you seal your hole in the wall (around the wastepipe) with some sand & cement.

Remove the trap where it joins the black pipe then use a wet vac and suck it out. Then reconnect the trap and run hot water for 10 minutes.

All done!

Did all the sinks in the house with soda while I was on.

Just need a couple of new sink plug/strainers for the kitchen sink. The balls have drop out of the stems so need to hold them up to drain any water off.

Noted about cementing the pipe in the outside wall.
