Cutting Soil Pipe in Confined Space

Hello

I read in another, very old thread (with similar title) that you can cut a soil pipe in a confined space with a nylon string but I'm worried that the cut might not be perfectly straight (the cut I need to make is not at eye level).

Does it matter if the cut is not perfectly straight?

No, slight variation will be ok, but you want as much pipe inside the joint, (i.e. past the seal), as possible.

Whilst we're on that subject, how much of the pipe does/should go into the joint? I had a look at some guides but none of them state this (I would've thought it useful when measuring cuts!?) or is there no 'lip' inside the joints?

It varies by manufacturer

There is a stop inside most fittings with the exception of slip couplings

It worth considering that the cut end will need to be chamfered to allow a fitting to be installed - vital if you're using pushfit
