In my infinite wisdom I told my son that I would replace his new ceiling light fitting in replacement for the existing multi light 12v fitting.
Piece of cake thought I until I removed the existing light and rose.
There were 3 cables, 2 normal 3 ply, live neutral and earth, the third has 2 live and one neutral.
After isolating the lighting circuit I connected one of the standard 3 ply with the result nothing came on.
I then connected the other 3 ply seperately, with the result it came on but I could not switch it off.
Before I go any further is there anybody who could set me right, I suspect the answer is very simple, please help me, I'll be your best friend.

Can you post pics of the wiring ?
Did you take pics of wiring before you disconnected from the original light fitting ?

The cable with two red conductors is the switch cable. The other two twin and earth cables are the supply in and out . ( Live and neutral in ,and live and neutral out).
Do you now know how to connect up ?

I think so , but I would be grateful for further info. The new light fitting has only a 3 point connecting block, whereas the old fitting has a number of various connectors. Will I need a bigger choc block?

You need a fourth terminal ,which can be separate from the fittings 3 terminal block. EFL has given an excellent pic of how to wire up ,and shows clearly the three red conductors that need to be connected together in the fourth terminal block.

Many thanks Terry and EFL, if ever I can be of assistance on any matters of applied science please do not hesitate to contact me and I will point you in the right direction.;)
