My front loader will not spin unless it is empty or say it has only a single towel in it Otherwise it struggles to move, it tries to constantly move the drum but it cannot as if it’s too heavy. I cannot see anything stuck in the rim or drum. I have also checked the brushes which have plenty still on it and the belt which are fine it seems and it doesn’t make any noises.
I am a single mother and I cannot afford to get someone to come and repair it therefore wanting to do it myself. TIA

Make & model may help. When you checked the brushes did you make sure they slid in & out of the holders OK as well as the length, were the springs both there? Can you turn the drum by hand freely?

I think it moves fine when I spin it by hand

Sorry but I did not notice your location & have to admit I have no experience of Simpson washers but they are owned by Electrolux so may be similar to English models. Can we establish that the machine does a wash cycle but fails to spin wet washing after the water has pumped out, or drum won't turn during wash cycle or the problem only shows up on the spin only programme.
Also is this motor https://www.appliancesupplies.com.au/part/16060-w0027171/swf12743-914900514-01 the same as yours

Thank you
It won’t turn during the cycle but goes through the cycle completely with water timing etc. yes that’s the same motor as mine

Is there a copper braided wire moulded into the spring end of each brush & attached to the brush holder or a little brass disc & the spring?

When I had this problem it was brushes, they need a minimum of 10mm and if close to this may also need replacement .

Pic looks as though they have plenty of length on them, but I was trying to establish if the wires connecting them to the holders are ok. She seems to have lost interest now though so perhaps she found a solution herself.

I had a machine which looked like it had plenty left on the brushes , but still needed replacement.

Sorry guys I’ve had a sick baby with diarrhoea- great timing! ‍♀️

So far I’ve check the commutator, borrowed a multimeter and checked the wires to motor which all fine, the wires to the brushes are also fine
My only guess is the control board? ‍♀️

Sorry to hear about your child, hope every thing ok now.
The type of motors on your machine are usually long lasting so the only other thing I can think of is either a broken or loose wire in the motor circuit to the pcb or as you suspect, the board itself is faulty. Probably not an economic repair, sorry.
