The chuck has seized on my drill, which is of course the piece of equipment I use FL the time. Gutted!

It turns fine, but the teeth got wet (unknown to me) and rusted. They would only tighten and are fully closed. I've tried some wd40 to no avail.

Is there a way to free them up? I've ordered a second hand unit (rather than waste two good 20v batteries and charger), so if I can fix my original unit I'd be a happy boy with two drills

Thanks,

Mark

This made me think that perhaps we need legislation so that all batteries of any particular voltage are the same fitting. I could then use my Bosh 18v battery on my DeWalt 18v tool etc. It might sound far fetched but just about every mobile phone is charged from a USB port and this has reduced the number of chargers thrown away.
Making batteries universal would reduce waste and help the environment.

You don't give much information about the type of chuck.
Try leaving the drill with the chuck submerged in something like this https://www.wd40.com/products/rust-remover/
A cheaper option is submerge the chuck in vinegar, it often removes rust
Thanks, overnight in vinegar then using hammer action with a bit of pressure on reverse direction produced enough vibration to loosen it off

One solution is to buy all your gear from Lidl....
