Hi guys I wonder if anyone has had the problem I am encountering with getting parts for my Dewalt 110v saw.
Mine is a DW708 type 3.
I started having cuts off line, and noticed the blade looked warped. I thought it must be the bearings.
However, after testing the front flange, blade and back flange I have determined that the back flange needs replacing.
After going to my local Dewalt stockist, Data in Cardiff I was told that it was unavailable. They were very good there and found an old one in their workshop to try, but unfortunately that is faulty also.
Does anyone know how long these companies have to hold spares for? Data told me that dwalt hold for 8 years.
It is annoying that I have a perfectly good machine, well looked after that is now U/S because of a £6 flange.
Anyone any ideas please?

What does it look like? Any way to shim or build up the worn surface?

Not sure If that's the part you're after.

Thanks for looking Eddie. Unfortunately it’s the inner flange I’m looking for. That’s was is so frustrating. Other parts are available.

Thanks footprints for your thoughts. I suppose it could be shimmed, but certainly outside my skill set.

This is the flange required.
I can’t see any distortion!

What is the problem? Is it wobbling, cutting off line or at a slight vertical angle?
Reason I ask is my old sliding chop saw tends to alter slightly as you start to cut so you do not get a true 90deg, I tinker with the angle setting by about 1deg to get straight cuts. I suspect it is slight wear in the shaft bearing that allows the blade to move slightly out of true when under load.
See if there is any excessive "rock" on the blade like checking wheel bearings on a car wheel. Cannot see much to go wrong with the bit you are showing unless the blade came loose and jammed causing damage.

Thanks for reply, the blade wobbles regardless of load.
The only thing that could possibly have caused it is that the blade jammed during an awkward cut.
I have checked the ‘rock’ and can’t feel any issue there.

Last suggestion I guess is a distorted blade lay it flat on a sheet of glass or similar surface.:(

I used the following utube clip to diagnose.
I’m not sure whether my blade spun, but I came to the same problem source without as much visible damage to the ‘flange’ as we call it in the UK.

Part of the problem is that your saw is well over 8 years old, having appeared as an Elu saw back in the late 1980s and then been replaced by the DW718 maybe around 2005 or so (possibly earlier, but I recall using a DW718 around 2006 on a job). That model has in turn been replaced by the DWS780 (several years ago), so your saw is, well, pretty old. Maybe try the flange from one of the later models, or get an engineering shop to turn you up a replacement?

Yours does not look damaged like his although we don't see the underside If you had one like his with the shoulder off it might grind smooth flat on a sheet of coarse wet and dry then a thin shim washer but I think as joband knock says it might be worth trying a later one otherwise time to treat yourself.;)(y)

Job and knock , and foxhole, thanks for that. There might be light at the end of the tunnel.
If not you might be right footprints!
