How do I turn my UFH back on?

I have under floor heating in my kitchen. Last summer I had my boiler replaced and now I want to turn the UFH back on, it doesn't seem to work.

I assume that when the boiler was replaced they switched off the UFH and forgot to put it back on?

I think the unit that runs the UFH is in this picture and sits under the boiler.

There are 2 plastic pipes that come from the 2 red taps and 2 plastic pipes that come from the green taps, that seem to disappear under the kitchen floor.

One of the red taps has a small tag that says "kitchen", so I have turned this to the on position.

Do I also have to turn on the other red tap and the green ones?

I would have thought all taps to underfloor heating would need to be in the on position. What’s happening when you try and turn it on? Does the zone valve engage?

I've only turned one red tap on, with "kitchen" written on it. I'm not sure what should happen but there was no noise, or flow of water I could hear.

If I touch the metal valve it feels warm but the plastic pipe leading from that tap is completely cold.

yes all 4 taps need to be open

Out of interest, do you know why there are 4 taps? I'd have just thought there would be two pipes - an "in" and an "out". Perhaps the floor area is too big for a single loop?

Do what @ianmcd stated, and make sure all taps are on, then report back.
 
Out of interest, do you know why there are 4 taps? I'd have just thought there would be two pipes - an "in" and an "out". Perhaps the floor area is too big for a single loop?
they are isolation taps and you have two loops, they are only really there for maintenance

I’m not underfloor trained, but my guess is it’s easier to lay 10mm, and have x2 flows and returns for the heat output - could be talking nonsense though.

Exactly that. If the loop is too large the water in the loop will have lost all its heat by the time it gets to the end of the loop. Multiple loops allow you to balance the heat around the room.

An update.

I opened both red valves and could feel the hot water in one of the pipes leading away from the valve to the underfloor.

I couldn't turn the green valves at all, even using a bit of force.

I left it a few hours (the floor used to take a while to heat up) but it remained cold. About 20 mins ago I switched the heating on.

5 minutes ago, the room still felt cold so I just touched the radiator and it was not on, which was odd, so I looked at the boiler and can now see an error message (E125 on a Baxi).

The pressure seems fine but I don't really understand what the manual is telling me about the code ("is the 3-way valve open"?).

I've shut the UFH valves off again but the code remains.

Am I just best calling an engineer tomorrow?

UFH update.

I opened all 4 valves and waited a few hours to see what happened (the floor is made of wooden floor boards so it takes ages for them to warm up).

The boiler temp kept fluctuating between 40 and 95 but after a few hours we could feel the floor was warm! Brilliant.

I then switched on the main heating and left them both running. The boiler temp seemed to then stabilise around 60-75.

Everything seemed good - the UFH and radiators were running.

Just before bed I switched them both off and an error message came up - no gas! I thought we had failed at the last but it looks like, at nearly the exact time I switched the UFH/heating off, there was a gas pipe failure in the local area!

So I am 99% sure that the problem is fixed and our current boiler error message will go when they fix the gas pipe. :unsure:
