Garden wall advice.

In these situations I always ask myself what would Gertrude Jeckyll and Sir Edwin Lutyens do and I hear them saying ' forget the blockwork , how about building it in brickwork in a nice Flemish bond'.

Sorry, it's been busy.
Due to weather I've dropped back on to removing the internal chimney stack.
The main reasons I wish to avoid brick is, cost, speed/time and although I can lay both bricks and blocks I'm not confident how uniform the finish would be using brick and I'm fussy.
It would hone my skills though.
Don't get me wrong brick would look far nice and I think I'm right in thinking brick makes for a stronger wall.

Still not doing it it bricks.
How are piers built when blocks are laid flat. I can't say I've ever paid attention when I've seen that type of wall construction. The wall next to the in-laws that's just been done doesn't have any where they laid them flat.

Thanks Stuart but I'm not in my twenties any more!

twice the weight but half the joints

a 7n block is about 18kg so those blocks are 36kgs -is that too heavy? Overall you are moving the same amount of weight.

That only works so far though!

Reminds me of a story probably made up, bunch of labourers on site moving planks to another area. Foreman pulls one up for only carrying them one at a time instead of one each hand. reply was "oh yeah you're right, they are all too lazy to make a second trip for the other one!"
