The original seal in that cast will also be well past it's best and won't seal very much any more.

What's just enough? I have always wondered what the difference between the two were!
I would second that! I was hoping to be able to buy a new one.
The one for the bathroom seems to be going well (touch wood) after almost 50 years, but then I don't think it has been disturbed in that whole time.
I think that a combination between yours and Jim's solution will work
Just enough is down to experience I guess, though if it were mea then no more than a 5mm fillet around the pipe at the contact point with the boss and old seal then clamp it up, clear any excess and then it'll be as permanent as the original.
May be an idea to call round some of the current cast specialist and they may be able to help, depends if the boss will give up the old one. You could also buy a proper 2" cast iron strap boss and do it that way.
