I have vinyl flooring laid in my bathroom and kitchen that has some kind of sealant filling the slight gaps between the flooring and the bottom of the skirtings. It is a bit grubby and has separated in quite a few places.

What sealant should I use to replace this? Ordinary silicone?

Reason I ask is because I was thinking that if I use ordinary silicone and get any up onto the skirtings when I'm applying it, then it may make them difficult to re-paint in future. Or am I worrying unnecessarily?

Thanks for any advice.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.

Ken - Thanks for the idea, I may well try it in the future when I have a bit more time.

For now I'll just use some silicone to get 'she who must be obeyed' off my back. Not large kitchen and bathroom, so will just run some masking tape along the bottom of skirting, bead of silicone, smooth off and remove masking. If there is any sealant on woodwork, will use Foxhole's tip with the spirit. Nice avatar by the way. ;)
