I’m looking to buy a water softener for a family of 4. Water hardness level is 220ppm. I’m ideally after a non-electric twin tank as these are meant to be more efficient plus where I want to install it has no power.

I’m on a Combi.

Has anyone got experience of Monarch PlumbSoft Solo Ultra?

Or maybe this one https://www.eastmidlandswater.com/h...mu45jjJbLARF1o6vJDTbOq8jdadklMsBoCHWsQAvD_BwE

With the Harvey’s the fitting kit seems a little expensive just for some full bore valves.

Any recommendations please?

Thanks

Thanks Andrew. Do I need the full bore fitting kit with 15mm pipes & a combi?

No experience of the EMS, but from looking at the data...

  • It's electrically powered, which you've previously said is unsuitable for you
  • It's £375 more expensive
  • It achieves its claimed 3000l throughout per regeneration by simply having more resin - 15kg against Harvey's 8.6kg. Incidentally the Harvey's one regenerates every 508 litres, but again that's a function of Harvey's having a pair of small cylinders instead of one big one.
  • Because the EMS only has one cylinder, there will be times when it's regenerating while you're drawing water. Single cylinder softeners can't regenerate and soften at the same time, so you end up getting hard water back into your home. Harvey's twin cylinder solution means you always get soft water, because it regenerates one cylinder while you draw from the other.

And no, you don't need a full bore kit for a combi boiler

I can wire power if needed giving me the option for an electric one.

Pricewise the cost is only £50 more than the Harvey's one on the deal they have offered.

I get your regeneration point.

It seems to be the EMS works out cheaper in the long run as it uses less salt per litre roughly 17g per 500 litres when the Harveys is is twice that 35g.

Also the EMS has 10 years warranty.

Sounds like you've made your mind up, must have been a good sales pitch. Best of luck (y)
