Which plasticiser do you guys use?

Hey guys, out of curiosity as per the title which plasticiser do you guys use for building?

I have a tub of cemenstone here that i use for pointing but on the back of the bottle it says not for load bearing applications.

All plasticisers introduce bubbles into the mortar, and therefore this affects the compressive strength.

But that cementone warning is nonsense and won't matter for typical masonry work.

I've used Tesco own make washing up liquid before when I've been stuck, not even posh enough for fairy. But usually a splash of whatever Wickes were selling as their own make 5 years ago.
There is also a lime you can use, hydrated lime, i think you have to use quite a lot though so it affects the result more.

I tend to use concentrated Cementone. The one with the the measure thing on it...

Nice and small and last ages.... I tend to do 20ml per guauge.

I used it on a job once and i was impressed, but it doesn't seem readily available at Builder's merchants, it's something that needs online ordering.

Efflorescence is the white stain that can appear on the surface of bricks. This is the natural salts contained in the bricks and mortar.

Washing up liquid contains salts and should not be used, unless you want efflorescence or increased efflorescence.

The cementone plasticiser from screwfix is just over £4 for a 5l tub. Did my whole extension. Can’t help think it’s cheaper than fairy.

Yep I've got so much left I've started washing the dishes with it. Really got those fairy soft hands now!
