I have (had) a hand steamer, the wife really needed it, steaming curtains was mentioned.
InN the end they told me it didnt work, so I took it to work and proved it did.. gave it to a workmate.
Found the exact same model in the mother in laws loft last week, so now we have another lol... that'll server her (the wife) right

Odd I was talking to my wife, and said how I had thrown it out as dangerous, and she opened a draw and showed me another she had got from her mother, but this one had an element in it, not just two electrodes, so OK. I said about using wall paper stripper, and she said just hang them in bathroom when having a shower works?

554.1 Electrode water heaters and boilers in old BS7671:2008 lists the conditions, main one is old AC is allowed, DC could give off chlorine gas, not even sure with AC if there is or is not a problem with chlorine gas, and it has to be so both poles are switched together, so you can't use in a socket with single pole switch so I would say they don't comply.

Maybe some one with current regulations could confirm?

You won't get electrolysis with AC, since the ions will move back in t'other direction almost as soon as they start moving in one direction!

I also seriously doubt that there would be a significant issue (at least in UK) even with DC, given that the residual level of chlorine in UK water supplies is generally no more than about 0.5 mg/L (i.e. "1 part in 2 million").

The instructions said add salt, that is where the chlorine comes from.

I would assume then it was one of those things permitted as we were part of EU, but since no longer part of EU it is time they went in the bin!

We’ve just had our Miele washing machine repaired under warranty this morning. While the engineer was here, he mentioned the steam programme. We’ve never used it but he said it gets creases out of things. I read up on it and you use it at the end of some wash cycles or you can just bung worn but not dirty items in there and it steam freshens 'em without using any detergent. Just tried it on a pair of jeans. Bloody marvellous - I reckon when dry, they won’t even need ironing!
