Ordering wood on-line help ( dimensions )

This maybe a really dumb question !! it says its 15x30 mm but how can that be as its clearly way more then twice the wide then it is deep. Am i missing something ?

I would guess that they have a stock photo that shows the wood grain, but not the actual product.
 
The main issue with those sizes is whether they're finished sizes or not.

Not sure why but wood is still quoted as the size the wood was at some point prior to them planing a load off. I think it harks back to when PAR was planed to whatever size the flatness of the board allowed, rather than being banged through a 4-sider to an exact finished dimension, before being allowed to bend again.
 
that is probably the finished size about correct for a chunky door stop
as paulrockliffe say the inch size as in 2x1" is the sawn size before planing or the stock size to be planed
off course now it all bought already planed so 2x1" finishes up around 18x44mm in the diy sheds and 21-22x44mm in timber merchants

'tis a stock picture. More importantly for you is ask is the size quoted is ' sawn' or 'Finished'.
If sawn then the PAR (finished) size will be smaller.
 
Some PAR is sold using the unfinished dimensions. It's only recently that Travis Perkins have started including the finished size on some of their lines for example.
