How to Mark Picture Moulding? Is there a tool?

I'm making picture frames and have cut moulding height and width to size, and used these as templates to measure out several lengths at a time. The problem is the pencil marks, which don't even sand off easily and ruin the raw wood frames. What does a joiner use to mark wood when they don't want pencil lines?

Thanks

cut slightly oversized then plane to final dimension on a shooting board with a depth stop.

also you can use a marking knife instead of pencil - ideally a single bevel blade.
