In my downstairs w/c I've noticed a patch of wetness.

Having investigated the problem, it's only when the tank overflows, the water flowing into the exit downpipe (from inside the tank) causes the drip to occur - I think?

I would like to fix this of course.

You can see a drip forming on the underside on the above photo.

Ideas please?

Fit a new float valve that does not overflow and change the syphon that has an internal overflow.

The down-pipe doesn't have a water-tight fit with the elbow.

Still a good idea to replace or repair the float valve so the cistern doesn't overflow- if you're on a meter that drip will be costing you £££.

Plus good odds it'll freeze up at some stage & cause internal damp/flood

Adjusting the screw on float valve/cistern was the first thing I did back when I first discovered the problem, otherwise it wouldn't have stopped dripping!

Don't have water meter where I live.

Though what I've learned from this is there is no harm in checking the toilet water tanks every once in a while to ensure no overflow is occurring.

If adjusting the ball valve has stopped it overfilling then all is well, and you've replaced the elbow on the overflow anyway, so double result.

Yeah, thanks.

Was a little surprised that no one gave a link for the part on this forum.

checck the wall outside where the o/f pipe emerges - stick a spare ninety elbow on the end to prevent drips running back on to the brickwork or render, and staining it.
