Hi.

I'm having the whole house rewired. It's had a dormer extension.

Do the sockets have to be at height of 45cm and light switches at 120cm?

No to my knowledge, new builds only, its up to you really, I quite like the new heights as I get older and stiffer

No, no requirement to do so, as it's an old property.

Worth considering to make it modern and future proof or whatever.

But it's up to you.

As said no, even with new builds if you can show why you don't want them at that height then LABC inspector can allow them to be at other heights, for example at bed head lower so not damaged by bed, and in kitchen one above cooker hood for hood to be plugged in except for maintenance.

When I had mothers house rewired many sockets were at 80 mm so could reach them over the furniture. As to the wall thermostat, idea is it needs reading so min height is 1200 mm and it needs adjusting so max height 1200 mm but it also has to measure the heat in the room, so needs to be in air flow, and not cooled by cold wall, so the EvoHome use the TRV head to measure and the thermostat is only a control panel, so it really depends on make and model where best place is, the Nest I have has a very large display I can read it other side of room, and adjustment one dial so as to being where it can be manually adjusted or viewed really does not matter, as even it you could not reach it you could adjust with phone.

So really down to common sense, my mother was in a wheel chair, and it was much harder for her to find a stick to adjust some thing high, than it was for me to bend down. One should not fit sockets in corners because of wheel chair users, but skirting board height was not a problem.

Also consider if your ever likely to be flooded too.
If so then having them higher up may prevent the need to rewire.

I have decided to have them set at current regs. I'll be doing the chasing myself.

Would entering the property be considered a corner?

For light switches I have gone with 150mm from architrave. But would I have to fit it at 350mm for switch at front enterance if considered a corner?

Cheers

There are no regulations regarding socket and switch heights. It's your house.

Are you confusing heights of switches with so-called safe zones - for concealed cables with no accessory to show their position?

Either way - 350mm. :?:

Not talking about safe zones. Do switches and sockets have to be 350mm from a corner with current regs? I am going to have it wired with current regs. Thinking about it I prefer the heights of the switches and sockets.

There are no "current regs" regarding switch positions as EFLimpedence said, It's your house.

I know that. I want to do it according to regs (even though they don't apply). It's for future proofing.

Anyhow does a switch or socket have to be 350mm from front door as in photo above?

How can you do it to regs that don't exist? As there are no regs a switch does not have to be 350mm from a front door.

I read it online. Part m I think. It says that sockets need to be 350mm from corners. I think that's because a person in a wheelchair would struggle to use in sockets close to corner. I am thinking of putting socket underneath switch so want them to line up. The door frame and wall make a corner.

Am I making any sense?
