When buying new track-suit bottoms I always choose those with a soft finish inside.
Unfortunately, usually after the first wash, this soft finish turns to an almost abrasive one which
I am very much aware of. Was wondering, is this caused by the washing powder used, the way they are dried (in the open or machine spun etc). Would welcome any advice please.

Do you use the amount of washing powder recommended on the box?

You can wash away excess soap residue with a hot wash, NO POWDER and a cup of Soda Crystals (washing soda)

If the water foams up, that's the soap residue washing out.

Excess fabsoft leaves a waxy residue. Soda will also wash that out.

Cold and low temperature washes are not very good as dissolving soap. There will also be a sludge of old soap and fabsoft inside the tub. Put some white cotton towels on a maximum hot wash with no powder, no fabsoft and a cup of soda. Probably it will foam up and they will come out cleaner, whiter and softer than before.

Drying on a washing line outside, or tumble dryer, leaves them softer than draping over radiators or hanging indoors.

The Mrs uses Peril non bio on my joggers and a soft rinse like Lenor, never had a problem, drying outside in sunlight can often make things harder.

Check to see what they are made from.
I find the 100% cotton ones are the softest but, are hard to find
Most of them have 60 to 70% polyester in them.

you’re going to make somebody a lovely wife

The woman who does the ironing knows all about it.

Hard water can cause this as can poor soap and how you dry.

Wash with washing powder and fabric softener, dry in tumble dryer. They should be nice and soft.

I have never had a pair of track suit bottoms,

neither have I had any ordinary trousers with a soft finish inside (well, not softer than the outside),

so, if they are essential, might I suggest that you buy track suit bottoms without a soft finish inside.

I hope they are for athletic purposes and not general wear around town.

You sound like my wife! She only wears hers when she goes to her yoga class but she bangs on about other women wearing 'Active wear' around town when there’s no need. When I told her she was talking cobblers, she showed me this.
