Hi, I have an imac which refuses to turn on. completely dead. I don’t believe it’s the cable and have swapped out the fuse for one I know works, but it still won’t turn on. It’s as if no power. On/off button feels as it should. No warning at all just didn’t turn on one day. It’s been sitting for a few months now but not sure what to do with it. If it’s something internal, can the local computer fixer take a look or must it go to an apple repairer, probably at huge cost Any ideas?

Do you get the welcome chime, but no image? This might be temporamental, few times it might at power up.
The screen will need to come off to check the main board LEDs. If the chime occurs on occasion, it could be the GPU that's faulty.
IMO whatever happens, your computer repair guy could have a look, unless you feel confident enough to remove the screen yourself?

Thanks for the reply chalkywhite.
I don’t even get a welcome chime. Machine seems totally dead - as if it not even plugged in.
I’ve changed the fuse and swapped the power cable (although not with another Apple cable). I. An only assume it’s been fried inside somehow? Unless nothing obvious will probably take it to a repair guy.

Something to try.
Press the Shift+Control+Option keys at the left side of the keyboard and the Powerbutton, and hold them all down. Release all four buttons at the same time, and then press the Power button to turn the Mac on.

Thanks! Wish I could try that but I have one of these wireless keyboards and batteries dead. Replaced them but keyboard is now not connected to computer. Can’t connect as the computer won’t turn on, so can’t try the key combination!
Not sure a connected keyboard would work either as I just don’t seem to be getting power.
Tried connecting my phone via usb to computer to see if it charges, which it doesn’t, but maybe that because the computer doesn’t turn on.

Thanks foxhole, unfortunately I don’t have a wired keyboard.
Is there anyway to connect a laptop and use the keyboard from that?
