Hi all,
I've got a few metposts I think could do with a paint now most of the outer protective layer is starting to peel off. Everything below ground level, is it worth painting it ?
Can anyone recommend a paint to use ?
Is this a pointless job ?
These are about £9 each to buy brand new so cost quickly add up. I'd like to look after what I've got already.
Thanks

I've found most met posts are usually galvanised under the paint, probably because when you are knocking them in the paint is likely to scrape off and leave bare metal.
If the post that sits in it is still secure I'd just paint the visible part, (maybe scrape back an inch or so of soil and go a bit below soil level with the paint). I only ever use Hammerite smooth on metalwork and never had any problems with it.

anyone tried waxoyl instead of paint - no good if it's on view but seems to be very resilient

Most cost effective would be poundshop fake hammerite I guess
