Silicone seal for shower tray tile

Have installed a new shower tray which needed the bottom row of tiles removed.

The old shower tray had tile trims but it seems silicone is the modern way.

Which is best, gapping the bottom edge of the tiles and apply silicone underneath or flush the tiles to the tray and apply a silicone run to tile/tray faces?

Personally, I space them above with a gap same size as tile spacing ..leaves a little room for movement/expansion .

Thanks for posting folks.

I've done the tiling so that's solvent weld pipe plumbing and tiling I've learnt all in one go.

I had to get a tile cutter and I'm not that impressed for longer tile cutting. Doesn't work for 300mm because the lugs apply pressure at one point on the tile and they crack sideways. The ones I had to cut long ways, I did in a vice with the tile sandwich between two lengths of wood at the cut edge then another length of wood on the tile and hit with a hammer so the full length the cut edge is hit. After I got the job done, it occurred to me if I got two wood lengths under the tile cutter's lugs, that would apply even pressure.

Where on the tile are you applying pressure with the lugs as you call them?

The hinged bracket with the two arms that lie flat on the tiles is what I call the lugs.

I was moving the slider so they were at mid point for even pressure on the tile but the 300mm lengths cracked sideways when I tried to break along the cut line.

Not in my experience isit done mid tile . I push the wheel from close to far end then draw the cutter back until the lugs are just on the tile with the lugs flat ,not cocked up, then Apply pressure .If you press in the middle the rails bend up

So push down, with the lugs flat on the tile, near the edge of the tile and do it at the guide end where the rails are supported. Will try that next time.
