how many people have ever washed their hands for a full 20 seconds before this virus?
Bloody virus. I couldn’t even read my newspaper on the train yesterday - I couldn’t turn the pages with dry fingers, didn’t want to lick them and thought it bad form to spit on them in a crowded train!

That's not my point. Of course it's not OK to lie... Its you..... You use the word very loosely.
My reason to be scared is primarily because I don't think the systems and infrastructure we have now will cope with the domino effect of this virus.
It may just turn out to be another virus which does the rounds every year (much like the flu, the cold, etc.) but at the moment there's a lot of uncertainty and focus on it. I was in hospital Thursday night (last week) after an elderly relative fell. We waited an hour for an ambulance and 9 hours for a bed at what is considered a good hospital. When people start going there in numbers with suspected symptoms the whole thing will collapse.
I am a little nervous about the fact my other half is a nurse. We have a good hand washing routine anyway, but I worry about the potential day she comes into contact with an elderly patient unknowingly carrying the virus. That'll get brought home and who knows what vulnerable person that could be passed on to.
All we can do is keep up the hygiene and stay informed!

I wonder how many people in the UK have caught flu, and how many have died due to flu since this scare started? More than this corona virus probably.

Good old USA. Because of their broken health system and poor labour laws.
People who go into Drs and test negative for flu and strep, who work in airports or have had recent travel are not given test for Covid in hospitals until they are severely sick to contain costs. So these people who cannot take time off work go back to work and spread it.

You omitted the pertinent one - lockdown.
The situation in Washington State is interesting (if awful for those affected). Spuriously high death rate due, presumably, to lack of testing and subsequent under-reporting. Which, in turn, suggests that their containment bus has long gone. Where will they be in a month's time?

I think your missing the point perhaps. Lockdowns are specific and short lived. The outbreak highlights how those countries with an integrated public health system and labour laws have better tools to react to such situations.
