The retaining screw on this keeps loosening when I am using the tool. Typically it happens within 10-15 seconds of use. I then have to tighten with Allen key and go through the cycle again in 15 seconds. Extremely frustrating.

There are two things I have done sine this issue started. They may or may not be related.

- chafed the blade to a new erbauer blade. Unsure on what I had previously
- put a drop of 3 in 1 on the nut as it seemed rusty

Thanks in advance

I have read reviews of the tool less version loosening, but have had no problems with the model you refer to.

The blade, if compatible, shouldn't make a difference, neither should a drop of oil unless possibly you have managed to cross the thread when tightening the screw. The rust you refer to is probably just the build up of brown gunge from the saw dust etc that seems to find its way into every crevice on a tool

Makita offer a three year warranty and might well be prepared to look at it even if you have not registered for it, the standard warranty is one year.

Hi @blup,

I have no reason to believe the bolt has a crossed thread.
I spoke to Makita today and they suggested that they can take a look and the quote me for the repair or he suggested that I purchase a new retaining bolt as the threads may have deteriorated. Does that sound plausible?

Yes. I needed to do the same thing on my Fein Multimaster a few years back
