The more I am learning about this virus the more I am starting to worry,

My missus is in some sort of ignorant bliss about Corona, mocking me that I'm "taking too much notice of the news hyping it up".
I hope she's correct.
I fear that she is not.

Parents in seventies. One with very rubbish respiratory fitness. Second with chronic high blood pressure, and kidney ailment.
Third on lifelong steroids for arthritis.

Friends just recovering from heart attacks, type 1 diabetics, child with kidney transplanted from father........

Even if it doesn't go worst case, this could fundamentally affect most people in this country.

The Italians are of a more social culture than us Brits, where they hug and kiss double cheek when meeting friends and colleagues and hold regular large family gatherings.
The local authorities didn't know the virus was amongst them for several days after initial contamination, by which time it had been spread significantly.
It was their inability in identifying the initial 'contaminator' that has resulted in the significant outbreak.
In UK we have been lucky (so far) that the small number of outbreaks have been identified as individuals, and their contacts identified to self isolate.
This obviously doesn't identify those carriers who may exist with only minor symptoms, but it has enabled the UK to take a more moderate approach in managing the problem.

I would seriously suggest that you bunch of ......... take BOJO's advice and self isolate. Like staying off the internet for years in case you get a virus.

Our testing is fine. We are simply not doing enough because the Government wants to do it on the cheap and also less testing means less cases to report.

Ask GPs on the coalface. GPs have been left to forage for themselves. The Government response has been cynical.

The patient went the surgery twice at the end of February. Surgery were told of this diagnosis on 9 March 2020.

That's a bit too close to home!

The patient should not have come in. Problem is GPs are advising patients to stay at home but then some GPs are afraid of having complaints made against them so play too cautious and allow sick patients into the practice. It's a ridiculous situation.

This is our Government pathetic response. Tell me Bojo is in control.

The protocol for people returning to the UK from Italy – which is on a country-wide lockdown, is still unclear.

At Heathrow, Italian nationals and others who can’t easily self-isolate are being asked if they want to self-quarantine in a large nearby hotel, No 10 said on Tuesday. This is thought to be the Holiday Inn hotel that has been used for some Chinese and South Korean passengers in recent weeks.

However, this is not compulsory so only some people are taking the government up on the offer. Return travellers therefore appear to be free to travel home via public transport, even though they are supposed to be self-isolating for 14 days. It is not known whether they are being offered masks to prevent fellow passengers from possible transmission. It is also unclear what the procedures are for those returning from other airports.

They need to isolate themselves and keep outings to the minium, the issue is those who are asymptomatic spreading to someone who is old with underlying health conditions.

Patient may not have known at the time. The advice only a week or so ago was don't worry if you think you have a cold - the patient was in there end of Feb, so could be 2-3 weeks ago.

I walked past Poundland today, as I do most days. They always have a massive stack of Pot Noodle in the window. All gone today.
And high street quiet, cafe quiet. People are already self isolating in huge numbers, which is a good thing!

The outbreak was in December 2019. The Government sat on its hands. Early January they should have started to plan and given advice to GPs but as usual they left the health service to work it out themselves. This government can win elections but it cannot Govern.

As a highly educated, trained and experienced epidemiologist, shouldn't you be offering your services to the Government rather than posting your expert advice on a random DIY forum?

There is only enough lab space to test about 2,000 samples a day at present. This is being doubled to 4,000 a day by rolling out the testing process to more labs.

This means that there is a backlog of tests, last I heard 4-5 days worth. With that it makes self isolating very important as you may be waiting days before you find out if you have it, and also slows the ability of PHE to isolate positive cases before they have already passed on the disease.

Aww upset RWR. The medics who are dealing with this were saying this to the Government. Ergo GPs doing opportunistic testing when Government guidelines were not to.

No idea what RWR is and certainly not upset. Par for the course though, playing the man not the ball. Why don't you use your extensive expertise to help rather than criticise? There's a recurring theme in all the political threads of a bunch of prolific posters of all persuasions revelling in the prospect of the other side failing so that they can point and laugh and post triumphantly 'I told you so'. To a disinterested observer, it comes across as obsessive and quite sad. That's all.
