Appears my filling loops isolation valve is rounded off which makes it very hard to open and close.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this or does it need to be replaced? It appears there is a thread in the middle I was thinking maybe carefully putting a screen in and using that as a lever?

Not fixable, to do it properly it will need replaced. Do you use it much? If it turns with mole grips or pliers that might do for now.

You may find it is a socket for an allen key.

It isnt it is a slot for a plain screwdriver

I'm talking about the hole in the middle, it was just a suggestion, could be just a missing handle screw hole though.

The hole looks threaded, almost like a screw was designed to go in there.
I'll probably have to drain the vessel at the top, then close the water and then remove and replace so will look in to this. Thank you

It was, the valve originally would have has a plastic 1/4 turn lever on it, secured by a small screw that screws into that hole, but they are cheap nasty things and always wear or snap off

Oh so I could possibly buy another one, remove the screw and lever and attach to this?

I know that's technically not the best solution but for a DIYer like me and considering it's not going to be used often it could be OK?

I doubt it,looks far too badly worn, replacing the valve is a ten min job from start to finish, not a difficult task by any means

You shouldn't have to touch the vessel. Just turn the incoming mains off turn on the cold taps then replace the valve

Get a proper loop...with 2 valves. The double check valve should be on the cold main.

Never ceases to amaze me what some people think an expansion vessel does, and not just punters , lots of so called engineers too

TBH I don't think that's ever had a tap handle on it, it's just a well abused slotted ISO valve, the original ball-o-fix valves have a hole like that in the centre of them too .... and is it just me or is that an arrow on the left side and it's pointing the wrong way?
