I moved the 3m and 3.5m ones myself on a sack barrow balanced just off centre so it's front heavy, you just push the rear down and steer. The down side is my driveway where the beams were drooped is all gravel and a right git to wheel on.
We've been using some 1m long strops. just getting them under the beam at intervals, bend ze knees and lift, take a few steps (cos the ground is crap and uneven from the digger and demo) at a time straighten up and walk it into place. Rinse and repeat. That worked well for the 2 of us on the weekend.

I'm gonna trim all the beams back tomorrow, got some time off so it'll keep me outta the pub
I'm looking to cut about 500mm off the 5m beams befoe we move them that'll reduce the weight by 18kgs each.
I just need a small army to move the high density concrete blocks, they are heavy 18.5kg each
Just added it up in my head
The T beams and blocks weigh over 8ton plus the footings, Trench blocks, engineering bricks sand n cement........

Done another 4hrs today.
Cut 13 of the pre stressed T beams to size, I used a electric cut off saw and it ****ed it. I had a choice hire a petrol one and get stung for the blade fuel additive etc or buy one. So I bought one, screwfix have an evolution 305mm one for £220 Inc dry cut blade for concrete and rebar. I got a used one off the Bay of E for £75, with the blade.
So beams all trimmed up, I installed the end blocks /caps and sand n cemented them in, got about 50 of the floor blocks down, and it started to rain.
I've made a bet with myself to get it done by Sunday, that's..........
6 x 5m beams cut in an installed
250 x blocks installed
Another course and a half of engineering bricks laid on the external course
Then backfill that with lean sand n cement
Cement wash the block n beam floor
Install 3 air vents
And I'm at Twickenham Saturday to watch the rugby........
And I still have wy wrist in a cast.

8am to 11.30 me and 2 m8s in the rain, lots of rain, soaked to me bumcrack. gotta love them scaffolders they dont mind being wet, or humping stuff about.
the ground is like the somme, 3 of us carrying the beams on strops sinking in the mud over yer laces....not good.
the rain stopped just before noon................. when we had called it a day 20mins earlier.
all the big sod off heavy beams are in
95% of blocks in, just a few to be cut etc
good tidy up in the area
ready for tomorra

Im on a first floor timber frame rear extension on top of my brick built one in 1999-2000 ish. I took the siding in today as there was a 7% increase from the 1st march but I got in before it hit. Scaff has to go up first and I think a top hat as have to have off the existing flat roof...although I am trying to think of a way around it. Like you today the heavens have opened upon me and I had to sheet as best I can. I have to move the whole lot again as it looks like its going to be sunny a bit for a change.. If you were down Southend on sea way I would of popped round and gave you a hand to shift it but I think you are up north. Diy busy this end as well, put the steels in before xmas and done a utility and a wet room... too many projects at once but onto this one now as I have mainly finished those 2.... not enough hours in the day.

Well the lean, mean, diy machine cracking on. The weather does put a downer on things. Remember last year redoing my extension roof and it was like working in a waterfall. I the end i just carried on soaked to the bone. Hoping for some dry weather monday as my timber arriving for my new shed build. Might crack on with it if dry. Was going to buy one but way too expensive for the crappy build quality and i need something secure too.

Need a bit of advice.
The brickie is here Tuesday and then sat and sunday
They need to get bricks onto this column, I have furfix etc.
The new floor heights are the problem. This colum and roof is in an area of the house that steps down and is lower than where the extension will be. So I need to get the gutter and fascia off to see it the column has enough height to meet the new brickwork. If it doesn't......... What can I do

Scaffers with reading and looking at the pictures i understand what you mean. Couple of things any builder will want to know is how it looks on the plans.
Are you planning on having the roof go straight across onto the existing extension and around the building. I'd say if that was the case the inner and outer walls will need raising to the new extension level.
Can you clear everything out of the existing extension so the roof can come off ?
Bit of a bugger with this weather i know.

Hi Martin
Yes the new roof will cut into the old roof and the old one reduced back on one side where the merge.
I'm gonna open that area up Friday when I put the scaffold up.
Worse case I'll get the brickie to go as high as he can up the open exposed column and if I have to throw a few bricks on it then I will.

Brickies are more than half way up. Porch is done also.
I opened the roof up over that column /pier and it goes up 2 courses and the brickie thinks he needs at least 3 so no major issues there we can go as high as possible now and add more brick when the roof goes on.
Next little Ray of sunshine.
The roofer was out today and we agreed the 6m structural steel to support the first floor needs to go in before he can start.
This steel is going into the ceiling/joist/upper floor area so won't be seen from below. One bit of luck is the floor joists run parralel to the steel so I'm hoping it will be a bit easier to fit. I may get a company to fit it as I'm busy at work and want this to move on.
Question, if the steel is in theory in the ceiling does it still get covered in 2x lots of plasterboard or is it left as is or is there another procedure.
