Unprecedented pandemic Boris adapts policy to increased threat

I see an old mate in. Sainsburys he tells me he thinks Schools will close their doors this coming Friday. He's a printer and that's what the leaflets say.

Bojo will advise schools and nurseries should make their own decision. Still have to pay nursery fees even if you keep kids at home.

Get corona done. (On the cheap)

What did people expect from Bojo - compassion?

I work at the HQ of a very large, long-established UK retailer. Including the factories and distribution centre we have on site there are around 6,500 people working here daily. We are all still at work with no measures other than increased cleaning in place. Absolutely no direction at the moment as to whether we need to work from home, yet in personal life I have chosen to cease personal contact with all close family over 70, will not visit relatives in care homes and my partner (a nurse) goes to some patients in hasmat gear. It's a really strange mix.

Unless the Government mandates action its the free market approach - each person or company can make their own decision.

I know and to quote our own head of department, "Boris isn't our boss" -- it's just a very strange juxtaposition.

that is my gut feeling too. I am at work, but really want to be working from home. My wife is working from home today, and we have food to last a few weeks. I don't want to be here!

Oh we all still expect to work -- just not in an office currently with 2,900 people in it!

Just had a very morbid and depressing meeting. Just a matter of time before all our shops have to close. The phones are not ringing much.
Crisis situation probably just weeks away.

I think you might be spot on

That sums up a big problem if this retailer sells food. Temporary closing of companies of one sort or another is too. I mentioned one in another thread. They can lay people off for 4 weeks. Seems Virgin can do it for 8. There doesn't seem to be any scope for an indefinite lay off. Boris needs to sort this out. Talk of financial support - where is it?

 Good news. The curve shown here has flattened rather suddenly

 only because of a change in testing policy.

The Three Musketeers proudly announced that they had carried out 45,000 tests. Seems South Korea managed 250,000. One of the musketeers mentioned that the vast bulk of theirs were negative. Bad value for money maybe? Seems we are going to have regular chats on TV from all 3 of them. Perhaps 2 of them give Boris's vocal cords a rest. I'd like them to add some one who can organise a **** up in a brewery and get rid of one of the scientists. Sounds like cobra needs a few too.

WHO says test test test. UK - now in a situation where they have no idea how many have it other than maybe how many finish up in hospital.

There is probably still enough food and loo rolls - it's all in warehouses, it's just the logistics of getting it to the shops faster.
The bigger problem comes when the whole supply chain is affected because the warehouse operators and lorry drivers can no longer work.
