Which, instead of keeping people further apart, which is what is happening now that more are using alternative transport such as buses and taxis, will simply herd more together on these alternatives.
Last week my stepson was using the bus instead of the tube and he said they were a lot less packed. Take the tubes out and the buses are going to fill up instead. It's basic common sense that if you remove one form of something that is necessary then the alternatives will become more used.

Do 'Think Tanks' actually realise there is clue in their job description?

This is what I think. I may be wrong but one thing is clear to me. They do not put 20,000 troops on standby to drive oxygen tankers to hospital. People going into shops and buying up stuff at unprecedented levels is a form of looting, allbeit paid for looting. If the government shuts everything down this country will collapse. Okay that has happened before in this country. Perhaps not to the extent that my, panicking, mind can envisage, the real looting, ie riots etc etc, could happen. If the country shuts down food and most other goods will become scarce or non existant so where does that leave the people? If it was just this country okay I could say that this country has gone completely bonkers. But this absolute hysteria is world wide. It is very very frightening and frightened people do unheard of things. Why this virus is being treated as anything other than a new form of flu, which lets face it has not elicitated the sorts of panick that this virus has, is completely beyond my ken. I can only think that governments are keeping things from us, and that alone is hugely frightening.

I sort of agree with that, either there is a lot more to this than what we are being told or the whole country / world has went barking mad in some sort of social viral media meltdown.

Everything about it is starting to frighten me, I have no idea what the death toll from the virus will be, but when that is over there will be another possibly bigger death toll from the social unrest and dire poverty that will ensue from our destroyed economy.

One expert's opinion.....

"Compared to SARS and MERS, we are talking about a coronavirus that has a mortality rate of eight to 10 times less deadly to SARS to MERS," Nicholls said. "So, a correct comparison is not SARS or MERS but a severe cold. Basically, this is a severe form of the cold."

Let's hope for a hot spring and summer, and hope CV doesn't cope well with it......

interesting use of the word.

I wonder if that quote comes from an official document and a reliable source, that can be peer reviewed.

"emphasized that his remarks were made in “a personal capacity” and meant to remain “private.” He said the call was recorded “without my knowledge or consent” and then leaked on social media."

Nope.

Fake news.

But it has been declared a pandemic.
Your point exactly? Spanish flu was declared a pandemic. So was SARS and other illlnesses. 20,000 troops were not put on standby for those incidences. the only reasons 20,000 are put on standby is if a war is pending or civil unrest is feared. "To drive oxygen tankers to hospitals" what a bunch of bollo x.

Which is why I specifically said "...opinion". But your selective quoting didn't pick that up.....surprisingly:cautious:

Perhaps as you don't think much of his credentials, you might want to educate him with your vast knowledge and expertise on the subject.

Why this virus is being treated as anything other than a new form of flu
It is because it has a mortality rate 10X flu.

Older vulnerable people or people with health conditions will most likely die if they get it.
It causes nasty respiratory problems

If I go out to places with lots of people get the virus, then go to see my elderly father, if he gets it, he will die.
Same for my mother in law and father in law
That is why it is being treated so seriously
