I haven't panic bought, have you ?

On a serious note do you let the dough sit for long?
Well, that one was done in the oven but I used the bread machine to mix the dough. Literally you choose the programme (there’s 24 programmes depending on what you want) then depending on what size you want, you put in the yeast, flour, salt, sugar, butter (or oil) and water in that order and that’s it. It mixes, proves and then bakes automatically. A white loaf will take 4 hours, a whole meal one takes 5. There are quicker programmes but the bread is not as nice. I put it on so that my bread is done for when I wake up in the morning. Luvverly.

Trouble is Mottie we tend to eat most of the bread when it comes out the maker. It is spot on and if any left Aldi do some really nice bread mixes.

At the moment it's not selfish barstewards emptying the shelves, its ordinary people trying to get some food because they have a family to feed.

Bloody nonsense they're over buying ...........

Trouble is the media fuel the fire. Mast reports of panic buying so when people go shopping they too get a little extra incase things run out. The snowball starts rolling and gets bigger and bigger as people add more to the trolley. When Boris and the med. experts started to mention the self isolation it should of been compulsory for all supermarkets to have limits on purchases per person to at least keep some stuff on the shelves. It is not all down to supply issues its the logistics of getting it to the supermarkets as well. With money being tight a lot of firms in the transport/distribution sector have had skeleton staff to save money. Now a supermarket that had 4 deliveries a week want 10. A driver can only work so many hours in a week and we do have a shortage of drivers in the uk due to HGV drivers wages being so low.

What flour do you use?

My favorite is Wessex mill french bread flour and their cobber flour.

I think the best loaves are those baked in the oven.

Stop being a silly arse, NOONE can overbuy right now - there is bugger all in the stores to overbuy - so its only people trying to get some food to feed themselves and their families now.
And they are being very unsuccessful in doing it. (unless they like soup).

Heard on the news how one drug dealer ditching his cannabis plants for tomato ones as more profit in it.

Any old flour she gets delivered with the weekly shop although just lately I’ve bought some Waitrose Dutchy and that seems to give a good loaf. Carr’s is quite nice too. I like to sometimes use 50/50 milk and water and/or throw an egg yoke in the mix.

I've not been panic-buying. Rather than worrying about the items missing from the shelves, I've been snapping up the items that remain. Lovely meals of heart of palm, tinned octopus, butter beans and Easter eggs go down a treat.

Critical care nurse on the radio this morning
In. Tears

Working long hours shopping late and walks into shops were the shelves have been stripped bare

Local super market, no milk but shelves full of chocolate.......

Can anyone explain how to get the pint and a half of milk from a bar of chocolate

We haven't over shopped and not getting stuff in early on has caused problems. Loo rolls really needed. A shop assistant suggested we turned up at 7am the following day as she thought more would be coming in. They did so bought more than we usually do but not enough for 3 months. Didn't buy all that was there but they went rapidly and the shop was packed. A woman we know mentioned buying 100 rolls - other people we asked - doesn't matter I'm ok. Think she lives on her own.

3 months food. Not much chance, As much as possible in the fridge feezer. Suppose I could buy another one. Then some cans. Big problem getting what's needed to make meals from cans and get a moderately balanced / useful diet. Did managed to buy some rice. Veg best in the freezer. In short we are bound to need to shop again in 3 months or suffer from malnutrition.

Milk's ok for a while but we will need more. Bread too but some has had to go in the freezer. ;) Some in fridge too but will need eating sooner.
