Can someone please explain why some songs which have been copied from a PC which was ripped from a legally bought CD get the message "The song couldn't be played"?

They play alright just after copying but after a while it seems to be just some random songs from the same CD which cannot be played.

Sounds like a codec problem. If u r on Windows 10 I had something similar last month with video recorded on a phone, had to convert the MP4 format. Wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft messed something up in recent update?

Has it just started failing in recent weeks?

Pc is still on Windows 7 and files are MP3.

I have just started using the tablet instead of (same) CDs in the van to radio on aux.

The point is it is only some songs and different songs at different times on the same copied CD/file.

Sorry, my description was not totally accurate.

It's not refusing to pay different songs at different times but is refusing to play more as time goes by.

I have examined one file and discovered that the songs it won't play have been deleted from the SD card while leaving the title and artist in the play list.

I have deleted one whole file and recopied it and all play as they should. I will have to wait and see if some songs are deleted again in the future.

Sounds like one of the music players is "managing" your music collection, perhaps by importing the music into its own repository and wiping the original MP3s. I know that iTunes used to do this, if you selected the "move to my collection" option, or something worded similar.

I am only using the App which came on my Asus Zenpad.

I have had faulty SD cards do that, bought some cheap for camera, seems they were not really the size they said.

You can use h2testw to check the size, then requesting a full refund from the dealer when you find any that are misreporting their actual size.

I did do that, however it takes a long time with a large SD card, and only when things went wrong did I start to look at why, lucky pictures lost could be repeated, I hope @EFLImpudence can actually say if there was a fault on card after testing, but seem to remember it took days to test.

Try to ensure it's plugged in via a (at least) USB 2.0 port

Have/had a similar problem with .jpg's on an Andriod device. Look through the 'Settings' folder for offline storage or similar. Can only agree with CW. You may find that you have to use a 3rd party 'App' to solve the problem; I had to find a different App to solve my .jpg problem.

The tablet shows 26.7GB free of 29.4GB for the card - so not much on it.

I haven't had any further trouble with the file in question after reloading it but obviously haven't tried all the others.

Seem to remember daughter bought me a 64 GB card for my camera, I know it was bigger than any other I had got, and for first 8 GB it worked fine, then it started to mess up files, since clearly for a camera could not really work with a day out and no pictures at end, I used one of the card testing programs, and they write to whole card then read whole card so whole card is used, the program also means all files deleted and can't be recovered, and it turned out the card reported 64 GB in the computer slot, but was actually 8 GB and once more than 8 GB put on the card it messed everything up.

It would be good to test while reasonably new so if one of the clocked cards you can return it, but seem to remember it was a slow process, so would not expect to finish test for a day after starting.
