Anyone know what that is? They're a square drive but the flats are deeper than the corners which are a bit rounded.

The only thing I can think of is the Nuvo Drive System bits used with Nuvo screws. They use a bit which is like a Robertson square drive bit with rounded corners. The 2 would presumably be for size 2, and the 50 would be a 50mm long bit. Try www.nuvoconcept.com to see these

From the pdf that looks pretty identical although the bit shown has a completely different notation on the bit. Maybe its an older version, or just very similar system. No idea where i got it and don't remember using it. I was just sorting my bits out and wondered wtf it was... Catlad do your ones have the same name as mine or is it 2r/2nr like the Nuovo?

They're a bit oddball. Only ever seen them on "system furniture" coming in from Germany on a hotel fit out. Never seen them sold here, nor the matching ironmongers. The very similar Robertson (square drive) screws are far more common (we use them for sub- flooring, etc as they machine drive better than PZD or Ph head screws)

I really like the square drive but have had some bad experience with robertson bits being sold as square and they're not quite the same fit. As i understand it robertson is almost universal in canada and square is a slightly diff euro standard.

The Robertson was indeed a Canadian patented design and there was a licensed manufacturer here in the 1930s for a while. The Yanks produced a "knock off" version, presumably because they were too bloody mean to pay the license fees. That version is a lot more common than Robertson over here these days and I believe is what we get on square drive flooring screws

Its a great system. Some screws will take a pozi or square drive wont they. I bought a set of triton impact bits on ebay but though listed as square they were too small for the corresponding drive and on closer inspection labelled r1,r2 etc. Getting to be a nightmare with permutations/proprietary drives like bullet screws that look like a pz would work but you'd round them all off if you didnt have the fresh box with supplied bit as is sometimes the case on jobs. You can be faffing about for a whle getting the right bit.

Come to think about it, weren't Travis selling some sort of system screws a few years back that used either? (red and black boxes, came with a bit in each box) Didn't they come from a firm around Preston or in that area?

Can't mind the name but it was a roofing job last year i was on and i think yeah red n black box that would take either. All the boys on job were using square bits to sink in 100mm screws.

Decking screws! that's were I have seen them before.
Keseryn yes mine are r1 r2 as well.
There is a large tool outlet in Preston called William Moore's & sons were you can get almost anything tool related.
