I'm building a garden wall that will pass directly across the main sewer in our test garden.
I was going to drop two concrete pads either side about 10 inches away from the pipe and site two lintels on top of these pads to protect the sewer before putting the concrete fittings on top.
I realise now I'll need to get a build over permit first.
So before I contact the water board could anyone give me some advice on what they would expect construction wise to protect the sewer, would what I planned keep them happy or so they expect something far more substantial.
I'm guessing the process for the build over permit is straight forward?
Thanks,
Poe.

Hello again Woody,
I will be checking with the water board and I've never known the need for this before other than extensions but for some reason I checked online and their website does not differentiate between building works only that any such work that comes within 3 meters of the sewer and has potential to impart pressure on to the sewer would require a build over permit.
I would hope it's not needed but from the above I think things have changed.

Your method sounds OK, there are quite a few detail drawings in the building regs approved docs of how to do it.
Ideally the build-over permit will involve a site visit from water board (usually an engineer rather than a paper shuffler), check with them for details like pad depth & backfill requirements

You don't need a permit.

A garden fence is building work, as is laying a patio if you're going down that route.

Thanks woody,
I'll call them this week and check with them.
