Hi all,

I’m guessing this lockdown is causing a massive spurt of DIY right now

Well I’ve just plumbed in the washing machine and added a compression trap to the waste pipe, my problem is I need an longer down pipe into the trap, the pipe needs to be 28mm internal.

would you suggest a solvent weld or push fit as from what I understand the external diameter of these pipes differ.

Is it a washing machine standpipe and trap that you refer to ? Or a trap connecting to a sink waste ?

its a washing machine, i’ve basically fitted a pipe to the external wall of the house to a drain, then coming in through the brick into a trap

Can you post a pic Adam ?
Inside property should have a vertical standpipe with a trap at the bottom ,and waste pipe out through the wall at low level. I can't envisage what you have done from your description.

Cheers Terry, i’ve put a photo on, i understand the drop has to be a minimum of 65cm

The pipe through the wall really needs to be lower. Have you cut the vertical standpipe short ,and now want to increase its height ? If so what's the outside diameter ,a compression coupler would do it. Or you could of course buy a new standpipe / trap.

i couldnt really put the hole lower through the wall as there wouldnt be much of a drop outside.

thats the standpipe that came with the trap, i was just after a longer one

I’ve measured the internal diameter of that standpipe so i know its 28mm i’m just unsure whether i’d need a solvent weld pipe or a pushfit as the diameters are different

That standpipe looks very short ,never seen one that short. Sweld and push fit are unlikely to be compatible size, but
1 1/4 inch ( 32mm) compression coupler probably would.
To be honest I would just buy a different standpipe and trap. By the time you buy a coupler and length of pipe you are best way to the same cost.

could you suggest a standpipe and trap to get? This is the only one i could find that fit onto a 32mm Sweld pipe

Washing machine should be 40 mm. Only bathroom basins use 32 mm ??

That is indeed what you need ,pics can be decieving ,but it appears to me that as your pipe thru wall is so high ,isn't the top of the standpipe going to be higher than the top of the washing machine ? Don't know what your overall plans are ,but if it's in a kitchen and a work top is above the washer it MAY be an issue.
